Today I found myself in the east end of Toronto. Near Parliament and Queen St E, there is a great West Indian store where you can get curry at 10am! Being of West Indian decent, it's never too early for curry. I always go for the boneless goat in a dhal puri, with hot pepper... and those one didn't disappoint! The serving was large enough that i almost couldn't finish it, but hot enough that I had too. The goat was tender enough to be cut with a plastic knife and it wasn't overly saucy. All in all it was a great meal and if you like West Indian food you should definitely check this place out.
Kish Roti and Double on King street near Parliament is a must-try for anyone craving delicious and affordable Trinidadian cuisine. This recently renovated spot is sparkling clean and serves up some of the best doubles in the city. We sampled a variety of doubles, including goat, lamb, and jerk chicken, and each one was more flavourful than the last. The portions are generous, and the prices are incredibly reasonable, making it a fantastic value. The staff is friendly and the service is quick, so you won't be waiting long to satisfy your cravings. Trust me, one visit to Kish Roti and Double, and you'll instantly become a regular!
I grew up in Trinidad and Tobago so you can trust the authenticity of this review (Diego Martin to be precise. I know we have an ongoing debate with the people from South/past the lighthouse on doubles standards). I have to say I was very nervous going in based on the negative reviews I've seen about this place (and that deplorable picture of a doubles a saw from another commenter). Here's what I ordered and how I rate it: Boneless curry chicken roti 5/5: Can't go wrong with this one. Well seasoned, good balance of chicken to curry, flavour is correct, only critique might be that the chicken itself was a little dry in the centre, but if they start cooking it a little lower and slower it's an easy fix. Pholourie 5/5: Hard to mess up a pholourie tbh. 5/5 because they serve it correctly with a tamarind chutney but you might want to ask for extra because they serve you one small container of it with 10 pieces of pholourie. They also make it fresh to order so you might have to wait a 10 mins but it's definitely worth it. Doubles (veggie because why would you ever put meat in a doubles) 4/5: They must've changed the recipe or fired the person who made that abomination of a doubles for those poor other commenters a couple weeks ago. Thank God this was decent. Nothing mind blowing but if you have a craving for doubles it'll get the job done. Very reasonably priced for Toronto as they have a 2 for 1 special at the time of writing this review. I ordered slight pepper but it wasn't hot at all, so if you like it hot you could ask for plenty and you should survive. Main critique is that the channa itself didn't have much flavour, but the flavour it did have was going in the right direction and the sweet sauce helped it along. For reference I think Drupati's makes a 5/5 doubles, Danforth Roti shop 4/5, Randy's 3/5. Please lord don't let this place fail. I live near the distillery and the next closest Trini restaurant is Randy's quite up by Bloor-Yonge so my prayers were answered when this place opened recently. Rooting for y'all.
I may find the best double in Toronto! They are doing a promotion - 4.50 for 2 doubles. The baras were so fresh and piping hot! Definitely would come here just for the double. Would love to try their roti next time! Such a hidden gem in the city.
Pretty good doubles, especially for the Buy 1 Get 1 Free offer going on right now. 4 for 2 doubles. The doubles were fluffy and the Channa was flavorful. Could’ve used a bit more spice.
Went to Kish with my mom to try their Doubles. Tried the regular double and chicken double. Amazing. Served warm, tasted delicious. I’m visiting again to try more. Restaurant is clean, prices are great and staff are courteous. Also tried the grapefruit soda and the peanut shake. Great experience!
Was driving home as I was working all day and saw this place out the blue. Got the doubles and jerk chicken chowmein. Was greeted with friendly customer service and food was ready in about 10 minutes which was great and I know it was fresh as it was. Very good place to go to wheb in that end of Toronto. Fair pricing also. Food was very tasty, I have had better in other areas but non the less I will be back. Great to have friendly customer service and staff as that helps big!! Keep it up guys.
The Rice, Dal with Stewed chicken was great. Brought back memories of home. The chicken was extremely tender. And the hot sauce was a really good. We tried the doubles too which were on a deal of Buy One Get One Free for 4.99. Pretty good, the roti was light and fluffy.
